Incense burner with Genji-kō diagram
鋳造香炉 香乃図
This is an incense burner inspired by the "Genji-kō diagram", which is used in the traditional Japanese cultural practice of incense appreciation, known as "Kōdō". The Genji-kō diagram is a graphic pattern inspired by the chapters of the classic Japanese literature, "The Tale of Genji." It is composed of five vertical lines as its basic structure, with a total of 52 different patterns. A selection of these patterns has been used as designs for incense burner. It was created in cooperation with Shoyeido, an incense manufacturer founded in Kyoto approximately 300 years ago. Stick, cone and whirlpool types of incense can all be used with this incense burner.
日本の伝統的な文化である香道の世界で用いられる「源氏香の図」をモチーフにした香炉です。源氏香の図とは、日本の古典文学「源氏物語」の各章にちなんだグラフィックパターンであり、縦5本の線を基本にして構成され、全部で52種類の図形があります。そのうち数種類を抜粋してお香立ての模様として使用しました。創業約300年の香老舗 松栄堂とのコラボレーションで制作し、同社で製造されているスティックタイプ、コーンタイプ、渦巻きタイプのお香をすべてこの香炉で使用することができます。
